Frequently asked questions

These are the questions we are asked most, before and after ordering a blood test. If yours is not here, write to us. We reply in English.

Before you order

Do I need a referral or a prescription?

Generally not. Most blood tests are ordered directly: the test request is included and arrives by email within minutes, you print it or show it on your phone, and that is all the centre needs.

A few do require a doctor to indicate them, and it is not red tape: they are tests that can only be read properly when you know what is being looked for, so offering them blindly would be selling a result nobody could use. When that is the case, the profile page says so.

Do I need Spanish health insurance or to live in Spain?

No. It is a private service: you do not need a Spanish health card, a GP or residency. You can order from anywhere and have the test at any partner centre in Spain.

Can I order any blood test?

Almost all of them. A few are not sold unless a doctor has indicated them first, and in the catalogue they are marked and have no button. They are assessments that can only be interpreted as a whole or that involve preparation someone has to supervise.

Can I order it for someone else?

Yes. Enter their name when you order and the test request will be in their name; at the centre they will have to show their own ID or passport. The test request is personal, so nobody else can use it.

What if I do not know which one to choose?

Each category in the catalogue explains how its blood tests differ and when each one makes sense, which is usually enough to decide. Write to us if it is still not clear.

Can I ask for a blood test that is not in the catalogue?

Write to us and we will tell you. Some things are missing because we have not made room for them yet, and others because we do not consider them useful enough to sell without seeing you first.

How much do they cost? Is the price final?

The price of each blood test is on its page, next to what it includes, and it is the total price: it includes sample collection and analysis.

There is no VAT, because healthcare provided by a doctor is exempt, and no handling fee is added at the last step. What you see in the catalogue is what you pay.

On the day of your test

Do I have to book an appointment?

At most centres, no: you arrive, hand over the test request and they see you. 6 of the 45 require one for any test (Cádiz, Chiclana de la Frontera, Ibiza, Oviedo, Ronda, Santiago de Compostela). And breath tests require one at every centre.

Each profile page and each centre page says so, so you know before you order.

Do I have to fast?

It depends on the blood test. Each profile page says so, and the preparation is also in the email you receive with the test request. When fasting is needed, it is usually eight to twelve hours, drinking water as normal, and some blood tests are done without fasting.

What do I need to bring?

The test request, printed or on your phone, and your passport or ID. Nothing else.

Can I go to any centre?

Yes, to any of the 45 partner centres, wherever you ordered from. Here they all are, with their address and opening hours. They are the laboratory's own centres: the test request is not valid at hospitals or clinics that work with it under an agreement.

Are there tests with special preparation?

Yes. Breath tests involve several days of preparation and require an appointment, and urine cortisol is collected at home over twenty-four hours. Each profile page explains it step by step, and it is worth reading it before you order, not after.

Do I have to pay anything at the centre?

No. Sample collection and analysis are included in what you have already ordered here, and nothing is paid at the centre.

Your results

How long do they take?

Each profile page says so. The most common ones take one or two working days, and more specific tests can take ten or fifteen.

How do I receive them?

The laboratory sends you a text message with a link to download them securely. They go from the laboratory to you, without passing through us, and that is deliberate: a result that has to wait for a doctor to forward it can take days to reach you.

If for any reason they do not arrive, write to us.

Who sees my results?

You and the laboratory, which sends them directly to you. And the doctor who signs the test request, who receives them through the laboratory's channel: they are the one who requests the test and who is responsible for it if something goes wrong. What does not happen is that they enter this website: it records which blood test you ordered, not what your results were, and there is not even anywhere to store them.

And if you do not receive them, write to us. They do not come from here, but the doctor who signed the test request has them through the laboratory's channel and will pass them on to you.

Who interprets them for me?

The reference ranges shown next to them are a guide, but they are not a medical interpretation: what turns a number into a decision is your context, and that is not on the report. It is explained here in more detail.

Can I take them to my own doctor?

Yes. You receive the laboratory report with the results and the reference ranges next to them. You can download or print it and take it to your doctor, in Spain or at home. The report is in Spanish.

Payments, invoices and refunds

How do I pay?

By card, through a secure payment gateway. Your card details never pass through this website.

Do I get an invoice?

Yes, with every blood test. The link to download it is in the same email as the test request.

It shows your details and the service, without saying which test you had: that is deliberate, so that passing invoices through an accountant does not turn them into a record of what each customer had done. You can submit it if you have reimbursement health insurance.

Can I get a refund?

As long as you have not had your sample taken, you have fourteen days to withdraw and get a full refund. Write to us and we will process it.

What if the three months of the test request pass?

The test request is valid for three months, but missing the date does not take away your right to have the test: write to us and we will issue a new one at no cost, during the six months after your order.

Can I add something after ordering?

Yes, as long as you have not had your sample taken. The email with the test request has a link to extend it by paying only the difference: the previous request is cancelled and a new one is issued with everything included, so it is a single needle.

Who is behind this

Who signs the test request?

Dr. Antonio Mas, specialist in Endocrinology and Nutrition, Spanish medical licence no. 080846289. The doctor who designed the blood tests in this catalogue and who signs the test request you take to the centre. More about the doctor here.

Are you a laboratory?

No. Sample collection and analysis are carried out by Laboratorio Echevarne, an accredited clinical laboratory, which also delivers your results. What happens here is deciding which tests each blood test profile includes and issuing the test request you take with you.

Is this a medical consultation?

No. What you order is a protocol designed in advance, not an assessment of your case: everyone who orders the same blood test receives exactly the same tests. If you have symptoms that do not go away or are getting worse, or a condition that has already been diagnosed, the right thing is to see a doctor.

Still cannot find your question? Write to us and we will reply. And if you have already decided, the catalogue lists every blood test with its price and what each one includes.
